What is Memphis Boo?
Ghost stories from the musical streets and magical sites of Memphis come to life on the pages of Memphis Boo. Mojo Bones is your guide, a Beale Street bluesman who wants to show you all around his Bluff City. Get an eyeful of The Orpheum Theatre in its golden age. Make yourself at home at the Woodruff-Fontaine House on Millionaires’ Row. Hang out in the shade of a tree at Elmwood Cemetery. Along the way, you’ll meet three ghosts—or is it four? These stories may give you goosebumps, but don’t worry, just stick with Mojo Bones and you’ll feel all right!
Who created it?
The author, Sara Babcox First, has a Ph.D. in History and for her, the past and storytelling go hand-in-hand. Just ask the students of Grizzlies Prep Charter Middle School, where she serves as librarian, or anyone who ever walked the streets of Memphis hanging on every word of her history and ghost tours. Sara resides in Memphis with her husband and two children. She claims the jukebox at Earnestine and Hazel’s as her favorite local haunting. Learn more about Sara here. Memphis Boo was published by Reedy Press, creative directed by Samantha Crespo and illustrated by Chris Sharp and Chris Grant.
